  •  Founded in 1934, Thailand's second oldest university. 
  • Thammasat University (TU) is known for its involvement in the Thai history, especially the political change in 1932. To date, TU plays an important role in Thai politics and history and has the philosophy to be the University of Moral for people.
  •  Originally named Thammasat the “University of Ethics and Politics”
  •  Began as an open university with 7,094 students enrolled in its first academic year. The University has since graduated more than 300,000 students including five former prime ministers.
  • Has evolved from an open university for law and politics to a prestigious international research university offering all levels of academic degrees and producing cutting edge research across a broad spectrum of academic disciplines.
  • Presently, there are 4 campuses (Tha Prachan / Rangsit / Pattaya / Lampang). All undergraduate programs have been moved to Rangsit Center since 2006 except international programs. Rangsit Center is located in Pathumthani Province,
  • The original campus also known as Tha Phra Chan Centre is situated on the banks of Chao Phraya River in inner Bangkok and is surrounded by the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha Temple, the Temple of Dawn, the Golden Mountain Temple, the National Museum Bangkok and many other historical sites.
  • The University offers 261 academic programs in a wide range of fields in 3 Faculties; Social Science and Humanities, Science and Technology and Health Sciences.

Credit transfer process

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Grading scheme

  • Student performance evaluation methods may include quizzes, midterm exams, term papers and final exams, group projects or individual projects.
  • The academic evaluation results are reported in grade point average system (GPA).

  • For some courses, S (Satisfactory) and U (Unsatisfactory) grading system can be used.
  • An official academic transcript will be sent to the International Office of the Student’s home institution by OIA approximately 8-12 weeks after the end of the final examination.

Course information and restrictions

  • Courses taken must be of the same level of study or lower than the current level of study in home university. Exchange students are not allowed to take a course higher than the level of their study in home university

Full course load information

  • During a regular semester, an undergraduate student must enrol in 9-18 credits only.
  • Exchange students or international scholarship students will be allowed to enrol within 4 weeks from the beginning of regular semester.

The Go Global Award $1000

All students accepted to Go Global for Exchange, Research Abroad, or Study Abroad travel programs are automatically considered for this award. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you'll be notified of your award after you're accepted to Go Global and after you get nominated to apply to the partner university.

Additional awards

Students who are eligible for awards may receive one UBC or UBC-affiliated international learning award. If you're eligible, you are always offered the highest-value award. Unless stated otherwise, you need to meet eligibility criteria set out by the University Senate regarding awards.

If you are a student from the United States, please check the US Department of Education Lookup Tool to ensure that any partner institution you wish to attend on Exchange is Title IV ‘eligible’ for Federal Student Aid for the year in which you intend to study there. For institutions outside of the US, select “Foreign Country” from the “State” dropdown menu.

If you attend an eligible institution, then you may receive Title IV federal student loans while on Exchange.

If you attend an ineligible institution:

  • You will not be eligible for US federal student loans,
  • You may invalidate any US student aid you have previously received for your studies at UBC,
  • You may be required to immediately begin repaying your US student loans, and
  • You may not be eligible for any future US student aid for the remainder of your studies at UBC.
