Who can go?
- Must have at least a 73% cumulative average
- However, students with a GPA between 70-73% will be considered if they are able to provide a written recommendation from a professor
- Exchange students can take coursework in most areas of study
- Aberdeen offers pre-law and pre-med courses to exchange students

Credit transfer process
The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Course information and restrictions
- Exchange students can undertake independent research in History, Chemistry, and Physics
- Although students need to provide course preferences in their application, final course selection will be made after arrival in Aberdeen
- Admission to Level 3 courses normally requires that you have already completed 4 semester courses in that field, while admission to a Level 4 course may require considerably more than this
- Students who are either interested in law or planning to attend law school after undergrad, are welcome to choose from a select grouping of courses through the School of Law at Aberdeen
- Students interested in medicine after undergrad may choose from Aberdeen’s suite of pre-med courses. All undergraduate medical science syllabi can be found here
- The English Department does not allow exchange and visiting students to enroll in level 4 courses (Level 3 has very limited availability)
- Creative Writing courses are not available to exchange students at this partner
- Science students who must take courses across two levels in the same semester (e.g. 2nd and 3rd year), or must take upper level science courses across disciplines, or must take both arts and science courses, should note this on their application

- Usual workload is 60 credits per term/ 120 credits per year (15 UBC credits / 30 UBC credits, respectively)

The Go Global Award $1000
All students accepted to Go Global for Exchange, Research Abroad, or Study Abroad travel programs are automatically considered for this award. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you'll be notified of your award after you're accepted to Go Global and after you get nominated to apply to the partner university.
Additional Awards
Students who are eligible for awards may receive one UBC or UBC-affiliated international learning award. If you're eligible, you are always offered the highest-value award. Unless stated otherwise, you need to meet eligibility criteria set out by the University Senate regarding awards.

Information for US students:
If you are a student from the United States, please check the US Department of Education Lookup Tool to ensure that any partner institution you wish to attend on Exchange is Title IV ‘eligible’ for Federal Student Aid for the year in which you intend to study there. For institutions outside of the US, select “Foreign Country” from the “State” dropdown menu.
If you attend an eligible institution, then you may receive Title IV federal student loans while on Exchange.
If you attend an ineligible institution:
- You will not be eligible for US federal student loans,
- You may invalidate any US student aid you have previously received for your studies at UBC,
- You may be required to immediately begin repaying your US student loans, and
- You may not be eligible for any future US student aid for the remainder of your studies at UBC.
Types of accommodation available
Housing notes
- Provided they apply by the application deadline, exchange students will most likely be offered a place in either the Hillhead Halls of Residence, or with one of the University of Aberdeen’s preferred accommodation partners
- Self-catered accommodation does not include a meal plan, and consists of 4-6 single bedrooms in a flat (apartment) with a shared kitchen and bathroom - this accommodation remains open during the Christmas break
- Catered accommodation includes a meal plan, and consists of a hall of single bedrooms with a large shared bathroom (like a typical dormitory) - catered accommodation closes during 2 weeks of the Christmas break, during which students will be required to find alternate lodging. As meal plans are not as extensive as those in North America, the University of Aberdeen recommends that you select self-catered accommodation
