Credit transfer process

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Course information and restrictions

  • Students can select from a wide range of courses
    • As much flexibility as possible is recommended though
  • Students who are very restricted in their course selection need to inform us as early as possible
    • Availability of specific courses are not guaranteed
  • Three levels of courses: 1xxx – 3xxx courses = Undergraduate courses
    • These are usually available to exchange students, except for restricted areas
    • Some disciplines will need to be approved by the school or faculty
  • Most undergraduate degrees at the University of Adelaide are of 3 years duration
  • Most engineering degrees are 4 years
  • 4xxx courses = Honours (not available for exchange students)
  • Faculty of Engineering, Computer & Mathematical Sciences 5xxx – 7xxx courses = Postgraduate courses
    • These are only available to exchange students who have completed an undergraduate degree (or equivalent)
  • For example course COMMGMT 1001 – Introduction to Management 1 is a first year course as the course code starts with 1xxx.
  • A list of unavailable and restricted courses can be found on Adelaide's website

Full course load information

  • A standard full-time workload comprises 12 units (4 courses 100%)
  • Students can elect to take 9 units per semester (3 courses 75%) and will still be considered as participating in full-time study
  • Full time study is a visa requirement and this is between 9 units (minimum) and 12 units (Maximum)
  • Courses offered are normally 3 units each

Scholarships and awards

The Go Global Award $1000

All students accepted to Go Global for Exchange, Research Abroad, or Study Abroad travel programs are automatically considered for this award. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you'll be notified of your award after you're accepted to Go Global and after you get nominated to apply to the partner university.

Additional Awards

Students who are eligible for awards may receive one UBC or UBC-affiliated international learning award. If you're eligible, you are always offered the highest-value award. Unless stated otherwise, you need to meet eligibility criteria set out by the University Senate regarding awards.

Information for US students: 

If you are a student from the United States, please check the US Department of Education Lookup Tool to ensure that any partner institution you wish to attend on Exchange is Title IV ‘eligible’ for Federal Student Aid for the year in which you intend to study there. For institutions outside of the US, select “Foreign Country” from the “State” dropdown menu.

If you attend an eligible institution, then you may receive Title IV federal student loans while on Exchange.

If you attend an ineligible institution:

  • You will not be eligible for US federal student loans,
  • You may invalidate any US student aid you have previously received for your studies at UBC,
  • You may be required to immediately begin repaying your US student loans, and
  • You may not be eligible for any future US student aid for the remainder of your studies at UBC.

Additional Fees

  • All students studying in Australia are required to enroll into the compulsory Overseas Health Cover (OSHC). Approximate cost is $380 AUD per semester.

    • The Village (25 reserved rooms/single semester) or commercial purposed-build student accommodations: Scape and Yugo.
  • Other accommodation options:
    • Temporary accommodation - essential for students who will be looking for accommodation after arrival (includes share houses or flats)
    • The Accommodation Service has a database of available housing which students can access once they have their student log in
