The University of Nottingham Ningbo China is the first Sino-Foreign University in China with approval from the Chinese Ministry of Education. The University of Nottingham Ningbo's mission statement is "Academic Excellence in the Service of Global Citizenship". All undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Ningbo are conducted entirely in English with the same teaching and evaluation standards as at Nottingham UK by staff either seconded from Nottingham UK or appointed internationally to the University of Nottingham standards. The University is located in Ningbo Higher Education Park on a newly built and dedicated campus with a land area of 887mu. It currently has over 6800 undergraduate and postgraduate students and more than 600 teaching and administrative staff from over 40 countries in the world.

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Exchange students can study Mandarin from beginner to advanced levels.
The Mandarin Programme at UNNC offers 10, 15 and 20 credit modules in our autumn and spring semesters. Currently, most 10 and all 15 credit modules are 3 hours per week, and 20 credit modules are 6hrs per week.
Modules cover the full range of language ability from beginners to advanced. 10 credit modules cover 4 levels and 20 credit modules cover 5 levels, with each level equivalent to a full year of study over the autumn and spring semesters. These modules focus on developing students' language skills, including reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Full course load information
Students are required to undertake a full time course of study for one or two semesters. Modules are normally worth 10-20 credits each. The average full time workload is 60 Nottingham credits (30 ECTS credits) in one semester and 120 credits (60 ECTS credits) over two semesters in one year. 50 credits is the minimum full-time workload in one semester

Exchange Tuition
15 credits or equivalent full-time program fee per term, paid to UBC. For summer students, tuition and other fees, aside from the application fee, are paid directly to the partner. Some exceptions may apply.
Scholarships and awards
The Go Global Award $1000
All students accepted to Go Global for Exchange, Research Abroad, or Study Abroad travel programs are automatically considered for this award. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you'll be notified of your award after you're accepted to Go Global and after you get nominated to apply to the partner university.
Additional awards
Students who are eligible for awards may receive one UBC or UBC-affiliated international learning award. If you're eligible, you are always offered the highest-value award. Unless stated otherwise, you need to meet eligibility criteria set out by the University Senate regarding awards.

The Chinese Government and Ministry of Education offers the Chinese Government Scholarship for eligible BC students to study abroad. The purpose is to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people from the whole world, and to develop cooperation and exchange in education, science, culture, economy and trade between China and other countries. Exchange Students’ Scholarships: The one-time RMB3000 scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis for students in the exchange program at UNNC. The quotas are decided by Ningbo Education Bureau and Ningbo Finance Bureau each year. Basic requirements:
- Must be a foreign citizen with a foreign passport (Not including HK, Macau & Taiwan)
- Must be full-time applicants to a visiting student program (exchange/study abroad) at UNNC
- Should demonstrate high levels of academic performance
Information for US students:
If you are a student from the United States, please check the US Department of Education Lookup Tool to ensure that any partner institution you wish to attend on Exchange is Title IV ‘eligible’ for Federal Student Aid for the year in which you intend to study there. For institutions outside of the US, select “Foreign Country” from the “State” dropdown menu.
If you attend an eligible institution, then you may receive Title IV federal student loans while on Exchange.
If you attend an ineligible institution:
- You will not be eligible for US federal student loans,
- You may invalidate any US student aid you have previously received for your studies at UBC,
- You may be required to immediately begin repaying your US student loans, and
- You may not be eligible for any future US student aid for the remainder of your studies at UBC.
Additional Fees
All students must purchase a mandatory insurance provided through UNNC.
Types of accommodation available
Housing notes
On-campus accommodation is provided to all students. All rooms are fully furnished and equipped with a telephone and computer point which enable students to make and receive telephone calls and access the University's data network from their bedrooms. An indication of costs is provided as follows:
- International Residence Building 11 (single occupancy + private washroom): 16,000 RMB/academic year or 8,000 RMB/semester + 1,000 RMB deposit
- International Residence Building 20 (four-room flats + 1 full + 1 half washroom: 11,000 RMB/academic year or 5,500 RMB/semester + 1,000 RMB deposit
Orientation
Orientation programs occur at the beginning of both semesters.
