Partner university’s areas of study
- All courses, except the international Master's degree programs are held in German
- Students must demonstrate proficiency in German by proving they have had at least 900 hours of German corresponding to C1 according to the European reference frame
- Exchange students who cannot prove this are required to participate in the pre-semester intensive German course and submit a proof of a minimum of 400 hours of coursework in German corresponding to A2 according to the European reference frame by the time of application (i.e. it is possible for exchange students to take only English taught classes as long as students participate in the intensive German language course offered in September and March).
- If your German is below B1, you are required an additional proof of English proficiency of at least B1 (This regulation does not apply to native speakers of English)
- You must apply for the German course through the registration portal when applying directly to Stuttgart

Timing
Students studying in Term 1 at Stuttgart will not be able to return to UBC for Term 2. Students studying for Full Year or Term 2 will have to arrange to complete Summer semester exams in July and August to return to UBC for the new school year.

Credit transfer process
The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Grading scheme
- Grades range from 1 (very good) to 4 (sufficient)
- If a student receives a grade above 4, then the course has been failed

In general all study programs are available to exchange students but Stuttgart asks students to consider two important things: Some programs only have courses in German and many have a very limited selection of English courses. Please take this into consideration!
Bachelor students in their 4th year are allowed to take Masters level courses in the Master programs we have in English.
- Students who wish to take Masters courses will need to get permission at Stuttgart in advance of arrival

The Go Global Award $1000
All students accepted to Go Global for Exchange, Research Abroad, or Study Abroad travel programs are automatically considered for this award. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you'll be notified of your award after you're accepted to Go Global and after you get nominated to apply to the partner university.
Additional awards
Students who are eligible for awards may receive one UBC or UBC-affiliated international learning award. If you're eligible, you are always offered the highest-value award. Unless stated otherwise, you need to meet eligibility criteria set out by the University Senate regarding awards.

- Students considering this university are encouraged to apply for the generous DAAD Undergraduate Scholarship - application is due by January 31, before you will have received confirmation of your exchange, therefore you will require a letter from Go Global to apply
Information for US students:
If you are a student from the United States, please check the US Department of Education Lookup Tool to ensure that any partner institution you wish to attend on Exchange is Title IV ‘eligible’ for Federal Student Aid for the year in which you intend to study there. For institutions outside of the US, select “Foreign Country” from the “State” dropdown menu.
If you attend an eligible institution, then you may receive Title IV federal student loans while on Exchange.
If you attend an ineligible institution:
- You will not be eligible for US federal student loans,
- You may invalidate any US student aid you have previously received for your studies at UBC,
- You may be required to immediately begin repaying your US student loans, and
- You may not be eligible for any future US student aid for the remainder of your studies at UBC.
