Tec de Monterrey Summer Courses

About the Program

Immerse yourself in the language and culture of Mexico while earning credits towards your UBC degree. Tec de Monterrey, one of UBC's key partners and one of the top universities in Mexico, offers an exciting summer program in Spanish language and culture at the Querétaro campus.

Students can also take part in cultural field trips and extracurricular activities to enrich their learning. Located in the heart of Mexico, just a 2-hour drive from Mexico City, Querétaro is a city of arts, culture, economic growth and diversity. The city is known for its colonial centre and its role in Mexico's history, its UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as its modern infrastructure and technological development.

Final program details will be published by the partner institution that manages this program and are generally updated on their program webpage. However, you must apply through Go Global to be considered for this program and ensure you follow the appropriate transfer credit process.

Course Credits

Will vary depending on the course. Please note that Tec summer program credits = same as UBC credits.

Students nominated for summer exchange (pay tuition to the partner university) are limited to a maximum enrolment of 2 summer semester courses.

A language placement test is given upon arrival and students are placed in the appropriate course level. For this reason, the year level obtained cannot be guaranteed in advance.

Transfer credits are only granted for courses with academic content and may not be granted for cultural activities or internships. Please speak to a departmental advisor if you have any questions.

Transfer credits and evaluated courses at this university

Check out the courses that previous students have transferred back to UBC in the last 5 years using our Course Search Tool. If you don't see a particular course you listed, it simply means you need to submit it as a new course request through the Transfer Credit Portal while on your Go Global experience. For more information, please visit the Go Global Transfer Credit webpage.

Not all courses listed are offered through the summer program at this partner institution. The tool is for reference only–research the partner's website for actual course offerings.

    Tuition and Fees

There are a limited number of exchange spaces available, which will be assessed on a competitive basis. Under exchange, students pay UBC tuition for the number of credits they enroll in for this program. Before attending the program, you will be asked to disclose how many credits you are taking in the summer program so that you can be assessed the appropriate tuition. If you enroll in more credits than you claim then you will be assessed for the additional tuition.

If not selected to use an exchange space, students will pay tuition directly to the partner institution.

In both cases, the partner institution charges other program fees such as application fees, housing costs, field trips, cultural activities, or other costs associated with hosting this program. Please check the partner webpage for details of program costs or contact Go Global.

    Award Funding

A limited number of scholarships of up to $1000 are available for students attending a Tec de Monterrey summer program. These funds are in addition to the Go Global Award (up to $1000 per term) for which all students nominated for study abroad are automatically considered if they are eligible.

One needs-based award is available. If you wish to be considered for this award, please include this information in the Statement of Motivation section of your Go Global application, explaining why you feel you should receive the funding. The remaining funds will be awarded on a competitive basis and all applicants will be automatically considered.

How to apply to a Go Global Summer Program

    1. Complete your research about the summer abroad program and ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria (UBCV / UBCO), including any partner or program-specific requirements.
    2. Apply online by the Go Global deadline listed above.
    3. Please submit only one application for the summer program of your choice. If selecting a program that has limited enrolment (e.g. "Summer Exchange"), include a second choice as a backup on the same application by selecting the "Add Item" button.
    4. Where applicable, select the "Summer Exchange" experience to pay tuition to UBC or the "Study Abroad" experience to pay tuition to the partner institution. If you select "Summer Exchange", be sure to include a backup choice.
    5. If you plan to do multiple experiences (e.g. more than one summer program, a term exchange and a summer program, etc.), please submit a separate application for each experience. Our team will review your application(s) and if successful, will nominate you to apply to the partner institution(s).
    6. Pay the Go Global Fee when prompted, after the application deadline.
    7. If successfully nominated by Go Global, you will receive instructions on how to apply to the partner university.
