As part of an innovative project to determine models of Indigenous governance and leadership, a working group from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia visited the UBC Vancouver campus in late January. Discussions centered on the contributions of First Nations peoples to the decision-making processes of large institutions which have complex histories at the intersection of Colonial and First Nations knowledge production and education. The group included Tristan Kennedy, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous); Kaimani Hendry, First Nations Global Projects Officer; and John Page, Senior Strategic Advisor to the PVC (Indigenous). The Monash representatives met with UBC colleagues in the First Nations House of Learning, Office of Indigenous Strategic Initiatives, Institute for Critical Indigenous Studies, Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre, NITEP Indigenous Teacher Education Program and the Museum of Anthropology.
