UBC students: Apply to experience Japan as a teacher or coordinator by Nov 14

October 2, 2024

Does the idea of a year in Japan appeal?

The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET) sends UBC students each year to experience Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) or Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) through an official Government of Japan program.

Last year, the program sent UBC 20 participants. JET is currently recruiting UBC students for 2025. The deadline to apply is Nov. 14, 2024.

The program offers a minimum, one-year opportunity. ALTs work alongside Japanese teachers of English in the public school system. CIRs are employed in local government offices. Participants gain valuable overseas work experience, learn about Japanese culture and meet others from around the world, while contributing to language education and international understanding.

In general, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline by their departure date in July 2025, and be a Canadian citizen, to apply through the Embassy of Japan in Canada. The JET Programme involves 51 countries, so non-Canadians should contact the Embassy of Japan in their home country about applying.

Apply online and read more.

Deadline: Nov. 14, 2024.
