MasterCard Foundation Scholar Abigail Okyere

UBC MBA working to bolster African representation in the tech world
December 13, 2022

Abigail Okyere is about optimism, reliability and vision. A management accounting professional, she has six years of experience in oil and gas operations, business development, energy trading, supply chain and project management experience. Abigail is originally from Accra, Ghana. She finished her MBA at UBC Sauder School of business in 2022, where she proved instrumental in expanding Sauder’s LIFT Entrepreneurship Program to Ghana, which offers free training to young entrepreneurs in Africa.

Abigail currently mentors young Africans in leadership and entrepreneurship at The Graced Life Leadership Centre, a non-profit Christian organization fostering selflessness, growth mindset and development. In her role as Microsoft Business Manager in Vancouver, Abigail hopes to continue engaging in discussions to create opportunities for young Africans, as well as build representation for Black-identifying employees in the technology space. A UBC Mastercard Foundation Scholar, she recently collaborated as a co-researcher on the “Identities in Transition—From Africa to North America & Europe: Becoming Students,” a joint project with Scotland’s University of Edinburgh funded by the Mastercard Foundation.

In her free time, Abigail enjoys everything theatre and arts: playwrighting and script reviews, poetry, spoken word and acting.
