Fund your Japan postgrad university study abroad

May 9, 2022

If you are a UBC graduate looking to research in Japan, put your name in for a 2023 Research Student Scholarship. Applications are due May 18.

The Government of Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is currently accepting applications for students who want to study at Japanese universities as research or post-graduate students. The generous scholarship includes full tuition, a monthly allowance and round-trip flight between Japan and Canada.

The Research Student Scholarship is aimed at university graduates, born on or after April 2, 1988, for the 2023 scholarship year. The area of research or post-grad study should be in the same or related field that the applicant has previously studied.

Applicants who pass the written application screening then do an interview and exam (English and Japanese language) in late June or early July, more details to follow due to COVID-19 restrictions. Usually interviews and examinations are in person at the Consulate General of Japan’s Vancouver office. Fluency in Japanese is not necessarily required, but dependent on the nature of the university and study program as selected by the scholarship candidate.

Apply through the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver
