Exploring synergies with UBC and ways to engage Canadian universities, a delegation from Querétaro, Mexico talked with representatives from UBC’s Office of the Vice-Provost International (OVPI), Faculty of Applied Science, entrepreneurship@UBC, Innovation UBC and the English Language Institute on the Vancouver campus Feb. 27. The OVPI’s Global Partnerships team, which regularly welcomes visitors from around the world, hosted the delegation and coordinated the visit, which included a campus tour.

Canada and Mexico have enjoyed a diplomatic relationship for 79 years and counting, and academic connections are a key component. In recent years, university collaboration and student exchange between the two countries has increased, says Cheryl Dumaresq, OVPI Managing Director. The February visit marked another step towards growing UBC internationalization objectives through strategic partnership development.  

The Mexico delegation included representatives from Aeronautical University, CESBA (Bajío Center for Higher Studies), Polytechnic University of Santa Rosa Jáuregui, Polytechnic University of Queretaro, Technological University of Corregidora, Technological University of Querétaro, Technological University of San Juan del Río, the Ministry of Education of the State of Queretaro and the Public Affairs Section of the Canadian Embassy in Mexico. Representatives from the British Columbia Council for International Education supported the delegation’s visit to UBC and also attended.
