Established in 2019, CANIE is a grassroots initiative formed by international education practitioners from around the world who see the need and opportunity for the sector to step up and act on climate. CANIE serves as a platform to bring the sector together to work collectively as a catalyst for action. The organization's aim is to develop and share resources, training and events to help people drive change within their institutions. Individual practitioners can also become members of CANIE to stay informed of upcoming events and useful resources. CANIE collects examples of best practices by institutions, governments and individuals, and shares widely.

Since 2019, CANIE has hosted three summit and live events with 800-plus registrants from 67 countries. The University of Auckland sponsors CANIE’s Climate Dialogue Podcast.
