The language of instruction for most bachelor programmes is Dutch. The Bachelor’s programmes Aerospace Engineering, Applied Earth Sciences, Computer Sciences and Engineering and Nanobiology are fully taught in English. There are over 250 available courses taught in English in other TU bachelor programmes. All Master courses are taught in English.

UBC Students on exchange in their 4th year can take Masters level courses in English at Delft.

UBC students may not study in the following TU Delft faculties:  Architecture and the Built Environment and Electrical Engineering, Mathematics

Course equivalency formula

TU Delft uses the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) shared by all universities in the European Union. One academic year consists of 60 EC. One EC is equivalent to a study load of 28 hours (including lectures, laboratory courses, practical work, assignments, projects, private work, examinations or other assessment activities). Bachelor programmes at TU Delft consist of 180 EC and Master programmes, 120 EC.

Credit transfer process

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

UBC students can only study in the following faculties at Delft:

  • Faculty of Aerospace Engineering
  • Faculty of Applied Sciences
  • Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences
  • Faculty of Mechanical, Marine, and Materials Engineering

UBC Students on exchange in their 4th year can take Masters level courses in English at Delft.

Full course load information

  • Students are allowed to choose their courses.
  • An advisable course package should comprise between 24 and 30 EC (European Credits) per semester. Less than 24 EC is not acceptable, even if allowed by your home university
  • TU Delft programmes are academically challenging and rigorous, therefore students are expected to be motivated and dedicated throughout their studies. Should the results of an exchange student appear to be unsatisfactory, they will be discussed with the student and the home institution.

Scholarships and awards

The Go Global Award $1000

All students accepted to Go Global for Exchange, Research Abroad, or Study Abroad travel programs are automatically considered for this award. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you'll be notified of your award after you're accepted to Go Global and after you get nominated to apply to the partner university.

Additional Awards

Students who are eligible for awards may receive one UBC or UBC-affiliated international learning award. If you're eligible, you are always offered the highest-value award. Unless stated otherwise, you need to meet eligibility criteria set out by the University Senate regarding awards.

Information for US students: 

If you are a student from the United States, please check the US Department of Education Lookup Tool to ensure that any partner institution you wish to attend on Exchange is Title IV ‘eligible’ for Federal Student Aid for the year in which you intend to study there. For institutions outside of the US, select “Foreign Country” from the “State” dropdown menu.

If you attend an eligible institution, then you may receive Title IV federal student loans while on Exchange.

If you attend an ineligible institution:

  • You will not be eligible for US federal student loans,
  • You may invalidate any US student aid you have previously received for your studies at UBC,
  • You may be required to immediately begin repaying your US student loans, and
  • You may not be eligible for any future US student aid for the remainder of your studies at UBC.

Housing notes

  • TU Delft has partnered with various housing agencies in the greater-Delft region to offer accommodation to students coming from abroad. TU Delft cannot guarantee accommodation to all incoming exchange students as the number of available options is limited while demand is increasing.
  • To increase ones chances of obtaining accommodation through TU Delft’s housing service, students are advised to finalize their application procedure as soon as possible as housing is offered on a first come first served basis.
  • Students who choose the 2nd semester have more chances of finding accommodation through TU Delft. Finding a room in Delft can be difficult and time-consuming.
  • As most university cities in the Netherlands, Delft has a shortage of affordable student accommodations, a list of private providers is available here.
  • Besides incidental and set-up costs, the costs of living and study, is estimated to be between 850 and 1,100 Euro per month
