Credit transfer process

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Grading scheme

  • Final grades will be based on a combination of oral/written assignments and tests, project work, participation in tutorials and laboratories and final examinations
  • Multi-choice assessment is not a common method of assessment at UWA
  • Although specific unit requirements will vary, generally there is a greater emphasis placed on the final examination than you may be used to
  • At the end of your period of study, an official academic transcript recording the units you enrolled in and the grades you obtained will be available
  • 80 - 100% = HD (Higher Distinction)
  • 70 - 79% = D (Distinction)
  • 60 - 69% = CR (Credit Pass)
  • 50 - 59% = P (Pass)
  • 45 - 49% = N+ (Fail)
  • 0 - 44% = N (Fail)
  • UP (Ungraded Pass) P (Pass Conditional)
  • UF (Ungraded Fail)

Passing grade

50 - 59% = P (Pass)

Course information and restrictions

  • Students will be requested to seek unit approval upon application submission
  • Units with pre-requisites will be assessed case-by-case by the relevant Student Advising Office and Academic Advisors
  • An Approved Study List will then be emailed to the students prior to departure
  • Pre-enrolment is available a few weeks before semester commencements
  • Formal enrolment takes place during Orientation; students can change their enrolment during the first week of classes

Full course load information

  • Standard academic load per semester: 18 to 24 points
  • Most units (courses) have a value of 6 credit points

The Go Global Award $1000

All students accepted to Go Global for Exchange, Research Abroad, or Study Abroad travel programs are automatically considered for this award. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you'll be notified of your award after you're accepted to Go Global and after you get nominated to apply to the partner university.

Additional awards

Students who are eligible for awards may receive one UBC or UBC-affiliated international learning award. If you're eligible, you are always offered the highest-value award. Unless stated otherwise, you need to meet eligibility criteria set out by the University Senate regarding awards.

Information for US students: 

If you are a student from the United States, please check the US Department of Education Lookup Tool to ensure that any partner institution you wish to attend on Exchange is Title IV ‘eligible’ for Federal Student Aid for the year in which you intend to study there. For institutions outside of the US, select “Foreign Country” from the “State” dropdown menu.

If you attend an eligible institution, then you may receive Title IV federal student loans while on Exchange.

If you attend an ineligible institution:

  • You will not be eligible for US federal student loans,
  • You may invalidate any US student aid you have previously received for your studies at UBC,
  • You may be required to immediately begin repaying your US student loans, and
  • You may not be eligible for any future US student aid for the remainder of your studies at UBC.

Housing notes

  • Demand for both on- and off-campus accommodation has risen in recent years and housing is not guaranteed
  • UWA has five UWA on-campus residential colleges - commonly referred to as College Row – and room include meals, Wi-Fi, all utilities and a great community of friends
  • There are three private housing providers in Perth’s CBD, that host students from other Perth universities
  • Students who intend to look for off-campus accommodation should plan to arrive well in advance of the semester to allow time to look for accommodation, however are encouraged to start researching before coming to Perth. The housing market is extremely tight and there have been cases of false advertising in the past. It would be in your best interest to physically view accommodation before you pay a deposit or sign a lease
  • Airport Reception: For newly commencing students, a 24 hour airport pick-up service is available free of charge for a few weeks leading up to Orientation, if you are staying in one of the University Residential Colleges, or if your final destination on arrival is within the university precinct (Nedlands, Crawley, Subiaco, Shenton Park or the Perth CBD)
