Credit transfer process
The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

- Exchange students are restricted from the following Academic Schools at Cardiff:
- Dentistry, Healthcare Sciences, Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, Architecture
- Psychology, Politics, Journalism - Very limited module availability.
- Biosciences - year-long only
- Chemistry - mainly year-long study.
- When selecting courses, ensure that they are available in the semester for which you are applying
- Please research applicable course restrictions on the University of Cardiff's exchange website
Full course load information
- A full load of modules is 120 credits per academic year, or 60 credits per semester
- Students are required to take 60 credits while on exchange, and are requested to select 80 credits on their application to Cardiff

The Go Global Award $1000
All students accepted to Go Global for Exchange, Research Abroad, or Study Abroad travel programs are automatically considered for this award. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you'll be notified of your award after you're accepted to Go Global and after you get nominated to apply to the partner university.
Additional awards
Students who are eligible for awards may receive one UBC or UBC-affiliated international learning award. If you're eligible, you are always offered the highest-value award. Unless stated otherwise, you need to meet eligibility criteria set out by the University Senate regarding awards.

Cardiff University has announced they will offer grants via the Welsh government’s ‘Taith’ mobility programme to support undergraduate students to come to Cardiff University on a semester or year-long exchange.
Taith is a mobility programme that aims to invite the world to Wales, and hosting people in Wales is a fundamental principle of the programme.
For students who study at Cardiff for the whole academic year 24/25, Cardiff will be able to offer a one-off grant of £1250.
For students who study at Cardiff University for the Autumn or Spring semesters 24/25, Cardiff will be able to offer a one-off grant of £500.

Information for US students:
If you are a student from the United States, please check the US Department of Education Lookup Tool to ensure that any partner institution you wish to attend on Exchange is Title IV ‘eligible’ for Federal Student Aid for the year in which you intend to study there. For institutions outside of the US, select “Foreign Country” from the “State” dropdown menu.
If you attend an eligible institution, then you may receive Title IV federal student loans while on Exchange.
If you attend an ineligible institution:
- You will not be eligible for US federal student loans,
- You may invalidate any US student aid you have previously received for your studies at UBC,
- You may be required to immediately begin repaying your US student loans, and
- You may not be eligible for any future US student aid for the remainder of your studies at UBC.
Types of accommodation available
Housing notes
- Cardiff University guarantees a single occupancy place in University Residences to all Study Abroad students who apply during the normal admissions cycle
- 70% of study bedrooms have private shower facilities
- Most of the University's student residential accommodation is within easy walking distance of lecture theatres, libraries and the students' union, saving our students time and money
- In self-catered accommodation students share a kitchen with 4-8 other students
- Catered accommodation at University Hall (this is the name of one of our University Halls of Residence) provides during term-time, breakfast and three-course evening meals, Monday to Friday, while a traditional lunch is provided on Sundays (vegetarian meals are always available) - these catered accommodation rooms also share small kitchens where hot drinks and snacks can be made
- All of the halls, like most other UK universities, are mixed; the only exception to this is Aberdare Hall, which is mainly for female undergraduate students (which provides catered accommodation, with breakfast and dinner daily, with some variation at weekends)
